2008 Upcoming Events

Accessibility Training Scheduled:  HUD has scheduled a FREE Fair Housing Accessibility Training for Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 8:30 am-5:00 pm at the Sheraton Hotel in Sioux Falls, SD which the Fair Housing of the Dakotas is helping to promote and coordinate.  These are trainings specifically designed for builders, architects, building officials and advocates regarding compliance with the Fair Housing Act's New Design and Construction requirements in multi-family housing units.  The training is conducted by an architect through HUD's Fair Housing Accessibility First program.  For more information, including an agenda and registration information, click:  Events/FIRST Training Flyer-SD.pdf

Fundamentals of Fair Housing Classes Scheduled:  The Fair Housing of the Dakotas (FHD) will again be hosting its series of "Fundamentals of Fair Housing" workshops in a number of communities in North and South Dakota.  All workshops are open to the public and free of charge but registration is required.  Continuing education information is below.

Workshops have been scheduled for the following dates and communities:

  • April 17, 2008:  1:00-5:00 PM, Watertown Event Center/Best Western Ramkota, 1901 9th Avenue, SW, Watertown, SD.  To register, please click here.

  • April 23, 2008:  1:00-5:00 PM, Best Western Doublewood Inn, 1400 East Interchange Avenue, Bismarck, ND (funding for this workshop also provided through a Bismarck CDBG grant).  To register, please click here.

  • April 30, 2008:  1:00-5:00 PM, Best Western Ramkota Hotel, 920 West Sioux Avenue, Pierre, SD.  To register, please click here.

The "Fundamentals of Fair Housing" workshops above have been approved for the following continuing education credits:

  • North Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners:  The FHD is approved as a provider for continuing education credits through March 23, 2009 for the ND workshops.  Provider No. 91.

  • North Dakota Commission for Continuing Legal Education:  Approved for 3.75 CLE credit hours for the 2008 ND workshops.

  • North Dakota Real Estate Commission:  Approved for 4 mandatory continuing education credits for the ND workshops.  Course Number CE08-031.

  • South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners:  The Fair Housing of the Dakotas is approved as a provider for continuing education credits through the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners, 135 East Illinois, Suite 14, Spearfish, SD 57783. Social workers will receive 3.75 contact hours for the SD workshops.  Provider No. 1006.  Approved through December, 2009.

  • South Dakota Department of Revenue & Regulation:  The FHD is approved through August 17, 2008 for 3 classroom hours of appraiser continuing education for the SD workshops.  Course No. SD 526 CE. 

  • South Dakota Real Estate Commission:  Approved for 3.5 Required Hours of Continuing Education through March 14, 2009 for the SD workshops.  Course Number 2673R3.509.

Save the Date of Other FHD Trainings:

The Fair Housing of the Dakotas will be sponsoring additional trainings in 2008:  

  • July 16 (revised date):  "Fundamentals of Fair Housing" Workshop, Rapid City, SD.  To be conducted with a Vendor Fair sponsored by the Black Hills Area Multi Housing Association.  This course has been approved for the same continuing education credits as the other courses on "Fundamentals of Fair Housing".  Watch for registration information in May.

  • September 17 (tentative):  “Fair Housing for Maintenance”-Sioux Falls, SD (New Class!).  Watch for a flyer on this event later this summer.  This is a new course based upon requests received from the public.  This course will focus on fair housing issues as they relate to maintenance staff and include information on fair housing laws, case examples, etc.  This course is not approved currently for continuing education credits.  

These dates are tentative so changes may occur.
